Chicago Foundation for Women Statement on Proposed Changes to Title X
May 22 2018

Chicago Foundation for Women firmly opposes the efforts of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to advance an anti-choice agenda by withholding funding for life-saving health care and restricting access to pertinent health care information that allows women and their families to make informed choices.

Women’s health and access to safe, legal and quality health care are non-partisan issues. Title X gives women access to reproductive health care and contraception, empowering them to plan their families and have more control over their health, economic security and future. This proposed rule amounts to a domestic gag rule on U.S. health care providers, and will have negative consequences for women’s health, with a disproportionate impact on women of color and low-income women.

Abortion is a safe, legal medical procedure that nearly one in four women have by the age of 45, according to the Guttmacher Institute. The proposed policy infringes on individual access to accurate and complete health information and care.

Chicago Foundation for Women stands with reproductive health care providers and the women, men, gender non-conforming and trans individuals they serve, and will continue to fund full and unequivocal access to health care and information.
