Statement of CFW President/CEO on the 2016 Presidential Election
November 09 2016

Dear Friends,

We faced an unprecedented election last night. The results might have seemed contrary to all expectations. It might also seem to be a rejection of all that the women’s movement has worked toward. But, this is no time for despair. Let us not forget the progress women and girls have made – from the women’s right to vote to women being elected to office in large numbers. In our own region, we have many reasons to be proud.

The results of last night’s election make our work together even more urgent and important. There is no time for handwringing. All women and girls deserve to live in safe, just and healthy communities. A life free from violence and misogyny. A life with meaningful work. Work that is compensated equitably.

This is our rallying cry. Let us come together to end gender bias and work for economic equity for all women and girls. Let’s change the future for our young people and our children. Among them is our Nation’s first female President of the United States of America.

Join Chicago Foundation for Women in this movement. Join us and together, I am confident we will succeed.

With Highest Hopes,

Sujata sig
