Margaret Garner

Tragedy and survival: Women and slavery, then and now

Margaret Garner, an opera by Toni Morrison, is a searing story that illuminates slavery's tragic legacy and the difficult choices women must make. Chicago Foundation for Women is a collaborative partner on the Chicago premiere, and we will host community conversations throughout 2008 on how race and slavery affect women today.

At our 23rd Annual Luncheon on Oct. 31, 2008, the award-winning creators and cast—such as librettist Toni Morrison, mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves (in the title role), director Kenny Leon and composer Richard Danielpour—will give a special presentation. Learn more about the 23rd Annual Luncheon...
