What Will it take?
“What Will It Take? Building the Safest State for All Women and Girls” is a yearlong initiative throughout Illinois headed by Chicago Foundation for Women. It is based on the idea that to find answers, you have to ask the question. And we want to reach a wide audience of people who haven’t always thought that violence is an issue that they should be concerned about. Yet, violence is a part of the fabric of our society. It affects people across the spectrum of income, age, race and sexuality in far too many forms. From child abuse and incest to bullying and elder abuse, as well as domestic violence, sexual assault, prostitution and the trafficking of women and girls for sexual or labor exploitation, violence against women and girls permeates our world. And this violence continues at an alarming rate in our society. It affects not just individuals, but families, workplaces, institutions and our communities. Violence against women and girls will not end until everyone understands these problems are not just someone else’s business—they are problems all of us must address. We need answers. And when you are looking for answers, the first step is to ask the question.
